Day 1

Well we had a nice rest last night & woke up around 7 to start finishing the packing & cleaning. After about 7-8 hrs later, we were finally on our way.

I'm not going to lie & say that I didn't almost have several panic attacks once we started driving, though. If you've never driven with a U-Haul trailer, it's scarier than it seems like it might be. That's why my Adam's behind the wheel. I'm a little sad that we can't really see the scenery since it got dark around 5, but we'll be seeing plenty of it in the next few days so I'm not too upset.

One thing I've realized from driving tonight is that with the exception of my uncle, Richard, most truckers are rude, mean, scary drivers. O_o

UPDATE- OMG! Just went to the CREEPIEST gas station EVER!!! So we're heading down the highway 40E in the middle of nowhere when we realize we've still got about 50 more miles before we hit the London Bridge and we're running on about a quarter tank. There's a sign for gas at the next exit so, naturally, we take it. What we came upon was the most ridiculous HORROR MOVIE-LOOKING gas station I've personally ever seen. A lonely illuminated sign flanked by 2 spinning windmills & one conspicuously still one...Seriously, the only thing it lacked were the human carcasses disguised as lawn ornaments (which it actually may or may not have had. It was dark, after all). The pumps were "pay inside first" so we cautiously made our way inside, where we spoke with a perfectly friendly gentleman with no front teeth. Adam later told me of a man and his dog asleep in a sleeping bag on the floor of a corner I missed. I held my breath for 5 minutes while Adam visited the little boy's room & then the tension began to build as the credit card machine "failed to connect" over & over again. Naturally, afraid that a family of desert-mutants were making their way toward our desolate fueling folly of a gas station, I endured a ridiculously high ATM fee to pay cash & get the HECK out of there. Unfortunately, the scariest thing about this gas station turned out to be the ridiculous price gouging. We managed to escape with our lives in tact, unfortunately, our pocket books did not fare as well...

Anyway, heading to Crazy Horse Campgrounds in Havasu, AZ (Right Next to the London Bridge) :-)
